Who: James Johnson Class: Junior School: Willow Glen Sport: Baseball
Willow Glen junior outfielder James Johnson had a game last week that he’ll probably remember for the rest of his life.
The Rams’ top hitter went 4 for 4 at the plate, including a pair of homers, knocking in five runs in Willow Glen’s 13-10 comeback victory over Leland.
Johnson’s team trailed 4-0 at the end of the first inning, but battled back to tie the game at 7 in the top of the sixth inning. The Chargers tacked on another run, however, and led 8-7 entering the seventh inning.
That’s when the Rams’ bats exploded, as the team batted around in the final inning, scoring six times in the final frame to pull ahead for good.
Leland catcher Chad McCarthy also had a huge game, hitting a pair of homers as part of a 4-RBI performance.
But in the end, it was Johnson who upstaged McCarthy and the rest of the Chargers. The Rams are off to a solid start to the season, having won four of their first six games. Johnson has 10 RBIs through the opening weeks of the regular season.
